I have a fried that is obese and wants help
Hi,you dont know me. But I hope you can please help me. I have a friend that is obese but is very stubborn. She doesn't want to listen to any one. What is most upsetting a doc told her that if she doesn't start losing weights she won't live to see 25. Can you please advise me?
I really understand what your friend is dealing with. It really is an alarming thing to hear what her Doctor had to say. In today's world losing weight is no at all easy. Our lives move so fast and so how we eat. Fast food is only good once in while. Food is advertised all day long every where we look. Frankly once you get too big it is very depressing. I think you're an awesome friend trying to help your friend. The 1st piece of advice I can give you is to continue to be her friend no matter what she says or does. She may get mad or mean to you but don't give up. It is very had to look in the mirror and realize that you have changed so much for the worse. ....

Secondly I would tell her that "we" need to start off with small changes. The word diet is not the right word but life change is the correct terms. Being over weight you also become lazier and do not want to do things you used to love to do. So we have to work on the mind at the same time we work on the body. ....

Third, your friend has to understand that every day is a new day. So you many have had a bad food day yesterday but I can do better today.....

Forth being taking daily vitamins. A one a day is great but I would add flax seed that has omega 3 fatty acids. This is good to keep the blood flowing in the body. You can get them from walnuts, shrimp and may other great foods.....

Fifth, Ok, so now we have these thoughts. Nothing to hard to deal with. The next step is steps. Have you friend go for a nice easy walk in the morning. This does several things for you. The 1st of course is the exercise. Second is the digestion system works better and more importantly it gets you out of the house and for some reason getting out just feels better.....

Well so far we really have not talked about eating habits. The one thing learned is that sugar is the enemy. So there needs to be a mental change in what we eat. ....

Starting with Breakfast. You MUST eat breakfast! I have posted several links on my new web site www.bigtimesinfo.com about women and yogurt. Also white bread and white flour is killing us for many reasons so change to wheat if you need to eat bread. Stop eating any cereal due to the fact that is contains white flour. Instead if possible switch to eggs, fruit (Apples and bananas are great for many reasons) and if possible spice up the meal with some sort of hot food (not temperature hot but spicy) this helps increase your metabolism.....

Next is snacking. Some of us have a hard time making it to lunch so add so have a ready snack. Instead of hitting the candy eat some nut mix (walnut and almonds are the best but cashews and peanuts are great too) that you have prepared. Try to go to a whole foods place and make the mix yourself. Add some raisins (sweet food), apricots, sun dried fruit and the like By having this ready you are prepared to deal with hunger and now worry about the ugly word "diet". Again just making changes to our daily habits. And hey if you don't do well on one day and do eat that candy bar forgive yourself and just keep going. Not a race but a life long change.....

Lunch. Depending on if your working or home lunch can be hard. Working most people tend to go out to lunch and we big people are suppose to eat a salad. But if you do be very careful what you have on your salad. Can be a many calories as a big mac depending on what you add. Stay away from buffets if possible. Our minds tell us we have to get our monies worth.... But do try to eat a good lunch. ....

After noon snack, see above.....

Dinner. try to make it very light and eat before 7 pm if possible. Give your body time to process the food.....

Drink a lot of water and easy on the diet drinks. Of course no sugar drinks any more. After a while you stop craving the soda. Believe me, I used to drink a six pack of Pepsi a day.....
